This was my first real attempt at an electric bike.  I bought a brushed DC hub motor kit from batteryspace.com (they no longer sell the kit but it was sold as EB-KIT600W24).  It came with a motor controller and throttle switch to mount on the handle bars.

I don't remember what I used for a battery.

This kit worked great until I took the motor apart one day and decided to clean the brushes.  This in itself was not an issue but I got the brilliant (definitely not brilliant!) idea to put dielectric grease on the brushes.  The next time I tried to ride it, the brushes got so hot that the carrier melted and I had to walk the bike to work on the western PA back roads I used to commute on.

It was fun while it lasted but not really worth fixing.

Next up:  brushless!
